Trust us when we say a pressure washer works like magic, but they are also extremely powerful!
Here’s a list of 6 things you should NEVER EVER pressure wash because it will cause damage that will require either replacing or worse… a trip to the hospital!
1. Any Living Thing
Because a pressure washer is so powerful, it can also cause serious harm to people and animals. Always make sure you are wearing proper clothing if you are around a pressure washer. According to a 2014 report by the Consumer Products Safety Commission, around 6,000 people took a trip to the emergency room due to contact with a pressure washer.
- Do you have protective eyewear on?
- Are you wearing boots?
- Are you covering your arms and legs?
Never pressure wash your windows…unless you want broken windows. If you have hard water stains, that’s a whole other monster that cannot be defeated with a pressure washer. Learn more about hard water stains and how to fight them here!
3. Painted Surfaces
This will chip your paint away! If anything, a pressure washer is used to get rid of unwanted or old paint! If a painted surface needs to be cleaned, you’ll need a lower PSI (Pounds per Square Inch).
4. Stained Wood
Just like a painted surface, a pressure washer will take the stain off of wood. Only do this if that’s what you’re going for.
5. Asphalt Roofs/Asphalt Shingles
Just don’t do it, promise? Never attempt to do this yourself and on top of that never pay someone to do it for you. The water pressure will strip the granules that protect the roof. Very similar to how brushing your teeth too hard can start wearing down the enamel layer that is supposed to protect your teeth!
6. Outdoor Electrical Panels/Electric Circuits
We all know electricity and water don’t mix well at all and even though electric circuits can usually withstand even a rainstorm, it is never wise to be near the circuit with a pressure washer. Not only is it dangerous for you, but there could be big, costly damage in repairs.
Please note that pressure washing requires research on types of nozzles, amount of pressure, and other factors that are essential to pressure washing safety and effectiveness.
